Card for David...week ?

Time has really gotten away from me as of late. I even sent two cards out to my brother for the same week! I thought I had forgotten! Ok, can we say feeling a little overwhelmed and so so so behind! Lee and I have had so much going on around here since we got back from our trip to Missouri that I just still feel a bit out of sorts. But never fear...I will catch up...I am catching up! LOL

This card was inspired by the "states" pen I found at a small gift shop called "Main Street Treasures" here in Plain City. It has some really fun and creative things. My brother, Lee and I had a good laugh since I put the cities in the wrong directions but hey it's just a card. David said the pen writes so smoothly. Glad he liked it.

All supplies used from Stampin Up!:

Whisper White, Tangerine Tango, and Early Espresso cardstock, Ink used Tangerine Tango and Early Espresso, Stampin dimensionals, used a discontinued "map" background stamp and the saying is from the set Word Play.

As always, I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!

Father's Day...I Miss You

Today is Father's Day. This November my Dad will have be gone for 10 years. He was never much for fussing over him(or at least he acted like we didn't need to). We got him the same things year after year. Shirts, cologne, funny statues, cards some funny, some with letters of how much we loved him and of course who can forget soap on a rope! When he passed and we cleaned out his belongings he had kept every card and letter!

Just before he died I made him a small scrapbook. I remember him sitting on the blue couch in his blue pajamas(I bet you can guess his favorite color, LOL). He turned the pages slowly, smiled, laughed out loud and then looked up at me with tears in his eyes and thanked me. He died later that year. I'm glad I took the time to share my memories funny and sad with him before it was too late. You see my Dad like many other Dads was sometimes hard to talk to. I usually used humor to connect with him. Most of the time it worked. Saved my butt many a time!

Growing up I was scared to death of him. After he was hurt things were different and so was he. The real turning point with my Dad came when I married Lee. They had an instant connection. Both being through accidents that changed their lives. My Dad visited quite a bit when he was able. He talked to Lee just about everyday or at least 3 times a week. And in turn I got to see a different side of my Dad. Anyone that knew my Dad knew how much he loved Lee. And I loved my Dad for that. I felt like I got to know my Dad all over. Some of the stories he would tell Lee! What a life he had lived.

I use to hate that I looked so much like him(chunky too). I'm the only child that has his brown eyes. Sometimes I'm caught off guard when I look in the mirror and see his eyes stare back at me. But it is a good feeling that I'm a part of him and he lives on not just in me but in each of my brothers, my sister and his grandchildren. Lee and I have had many a conversation about how each one of us has certain traits like my Dad's and who is the most like him.

When my Dad had his accident the hospital called and asked my Mom to bring someone who could drive just in case she needed help getting my Dad into the car. They told her my Dad had just broken his leg. So she took me and when we got to Mt. Carmel East Hospital they took us to a private room and told us how bad the accident really was. My dad had almost every bone in his body broken. Dr. Schlonsky(along with other doctors) worked on him till almost 6am! He spent months in intensive care and almost 13 months total at the hospital. My Dad had so many surgeries over the years and suffered so much but he told me when I got married that he was glad he lived to see me marry a good man. (and of course he told me not to screw it up!...really that is what he said!) I'm glad for the doctors that gave us the extra years with him. But most of all I'm glad he was my Father. Good or bad he helped make me the person I am today.

So Happy Father's Day to all the Father's out there and to my Dad...I miss you.

Card For David ...week 13

Where have the weeks gone? I can hardly believe only 13 more weeks and my brother David will be 50 years old. I decided on this image since this coming Sunday is Father's Day.

All supplies from Stampin Up. (the image is from a retired set)the cardstock colors used are whisper white, night of navy and really rust.

This isn't a very good picture of the card. I hope to figure out how to get better pictures with my camera soon! :0)

I hope you all have a wonderful week full of creativity but most of all I hope you find time to stamp!

Graduation Card

Yesterday was Graduation Day for Jonathan Alder High School. I made this for David(Diane's son). I didn't have any graduation stamps so I figured a mortar board is only a square. Easy peasy! LOL I used a piece of a book mark for the tassel, attached with a small black brad then used pop ups to make it stand up off the card. I used an embossing folder for the background to give it a little umph. :0) And then just stamped the saying layering it with the real red and basic black cardstock. Another clean and simple design.

As always I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!

Card For David ...week 15

Not too many weeks left to go now till David turns 50. This card was made using some scrap green patterned paper I had left over from 3 years ago!!! :0)
I have FINALLY organized and gone through ALL my scrap paper so I need to start USING it. I stamped the saying(PSX) on a cream cardstock in black and then layered it with a piece of vellum. I attached it with two brads. Very clean and simple design but I just love the way it turned out.

As always I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!

Back Home

Well, we are back home from a trip to Missouri to visit my brother David and his family. We had a wonderful time. It was nice to see my nephews. They are getting so big. The oldest of the boys had his birthday and is now 9 years old! It was nice to celebrate with him.

But now it's time to get back to some card making! :0) The pictures posted are not as good as I could get of them but they are of the "explosion box" I made for my brother for week 16. I was to afraid to mail it so I just hand delivered it. It turned out so well. I will have to make more!

As always, I wish you time to be creative and most of all time to stamp!

Card For David ...week 16

Week 16! His 50th Birthday is almost here. This time I thought I would try a different style and size. I have never used my distressing tool and 6"x6" is one good size card!

Supplies used:
I have been using up old cardstock and have no idea what color it is or what company the striped paper is from. Stamps sets used from Stampin Up: "Plane and Simple" and "Happy Greetings". I used Baroque Burgundy to stamp the border and greeting. Stazon Timber Brown to stamp the planes. I used the Stampin Up Cutter Kit, which has the 7-sided distressing tool. To finish off the cards I used a brown waxy flax from Martha Stewart and used Stampin Up dimensionals to pop up one of the planes. I also used Scor-Tape.

I thought when I started making the cards for David that it would be a snap. But trying to make a nice assortment of masculine cards is turning out to be harder than I thought! I am always looking for more masculine card ideas. I'm always surfing the web, blog spots, Splitcoast Stamper's gallery. I think my next card is going to be a wild one. I can't wait till you see it! :0)

As always I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!

April's Card Night "Card Exchange"

The first card is by my sister Mary. She loves to always add black cardstock whenever she can. I have to say, it really suits this card. She used an embossing folder on the background to give it great depth. The little matching brads add a nice pop. The focal images is soft and the added glitter to the purple buds is so pretty. The little strip of matching ribbon give it a nice divide and helps move your eye around the card. I know Mary is just getting into card making but you would never know it looking at her cards! Really great job Mary!!!

The second card is mine. I used a flower embossing folder for my background and added small pearls to the centers. The mouse stamp is from PSX . I then layered it onto a scalloped border punched piece of card stock. Wrapped it with a piece of Bermuda Bay polka-dot ribbon and added the pearls between the scallops. I stamped the saying in Stazon black ink and then added a strip of more pearls. The image is colored using markers and a blending pen and then glitter added to the flowers. The colors of cardstock use were Whisper White, Bermuda Bay and Barely Banana(I wish they hadn't discontinued this color!)

As always I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!

Card For David...Week 17

This card is called the "Ultimate Glider Card". I got the tutorial from Lynn Pratt. Her blog is www.stampndesign.blogspot.com. She has a ton of ideas for some really cool cards and if you like using punches you have to check out her plethora of ideas! (aren't I using big words this early in the morning! HA!)

The card slides out then unfolds to show the gift card or good old cash holder. I used the new Stampin Up stamp set The Open Sea and matching Designer Series paper called Nautical Expedition. The card stock base is Crumb Cake and Cherry Cobbler. I used Baroque Burgundy Ink to stamp the anchor on whisper white card stock.I don't have Cherry Cobbler ink pad yet but I think it still matches very well. I then cut it out and attached with pop dots.

The snake one is for my nephews birthday. I used crumb cake cardstock and some animal print paper, not sure of the company now, it has a bit of a texture to it. I stamped the snake(retired Stampin Up) with Versamark to create the watermark images around the front border, then again on crumb cake with Early Espresso and colored in with Mellow Moss and Going Gray. I then cut it our and attached with pop dots. The button is a kraft corduroy button(discontinued Stampin Up) and I used the gray floss from the "sew easy floss gray set".

I think they will be a big hit and who doesn't love the extra little surprise inside. :0)

Bubble Gum Machines and Matching Card

I got the directions from Connie Babbert's blog. It's hard to tell but the card has a piece of acetate over the gumballs. It gives it that extra touch. The ones pictured here were sent to my brother for his weekly card/gift. The were a big hit. Thanks go out to my sister-in-law for setting them up for everyone when they got home.

The items used were:
Assorted color card stock from Stampin Up for the gumballs, silver, basic black and real red cardstock for gumball machine, brilliant blue and brilliant blue Designer Series paper for card, circle punches, silver brads, Real Red Ink(to do a bit of edging around the "machine" part to give it a more weathered look, Dots embossing folder for the background, acetate, sizzix circle die, sizzix big shot and orange ribbon by Offray. And of course Tacky Tape, it really holds! :0)

Take care and most of all I wish you time to be creative but most of all time to stamp!
