My "Working" Vacation & Blog Candy Time!

I am now near the end of my "working vacation".  I think I need 3 weeks instead of just 10 days!!! I have done an initial purge of stamp sets and some cardstocks. I still have to go through all the stamp cabinets, paper, embossing folders, and embellishments. My sister is on vacation and she is doing the same thing. She helped me last night and she took some of my things she really wanted and we have some things for my sister-in-law. But it seems like there is still so much stuff! We had hoped to put together card kits but there is no way I can get it all done in 10 days. It will take another two weeks to put them all together. The nice thing is I have found some really nice stuff for blog candy that I forgot I even had to give away! I have enough blog candy to last for 4 months! :0)

Well, this is what my craft room looks like after the first run through. I won't show you the piles of stuff all over my kitchen counters, table and outside on 4 six foot tables!!! Let's just say my sister and I have a mess! LOL

Hope you enjoy the pictures of it as it is now. I'll take some more after I finish emptying it it some more. :0) I can't wait to get a cozy for my Zing(covered now in a owl pattern cloth), valances and a skirting to cover my cardstock so it won't fade out from all the sun coming through the window.(probably not the best spot for cardstock but I had to make do with this room and that's where it fits. hehe)

Don't you just love my saying I posted! :0)
"Nothing is more exhausting than the task that is never started." Gretchen Ruben
I'm such a procrastinator, so this is a good one for me!

My work space. I love my saying above the ribbon holder.
"It's nice to BE important , but more important to be NICE. "

This is my little work space area. And those little bottles are Terri Sprouls New Mixers along with her glitter, glass glitter and a darken mix. This is the whole set. What do you think??? Hint...what a cool blog candy this would make! :0)

I was so happy when I found these ribbon racks. (3 shelves each stacked on each other) I got them on Etsy. I did't want a rack that I had to pull them off a rod. This is so much easier. Just lift them out when using.

Love my punches and my clip rack. It's too full now so I need to purge it too. Ahh...to have unlimited space! LOL :0)

I finally have my drawers all labeled and where I want them. I wish I hadn't gotten the 12x12 paper holder on this storage unit. I find it hard to get the paper in and out and liked it better in the little storage unit like the one on the right under my workspace.

How do you like that bow maker? It is so nice. I got it through Our Daily Bread Designs. It was designed by Becca Freeken. I have 2 to give away for blog candy! They come with a DVD of how to make 6 different bows. So easy to use!

Perfect storage for my sticker maker, big shot, grand calibur, bind it all, mini sewing machine and some folders for this and that.

And don't you just love my collection of Raku pots on top of my stamp cabinets. They are done by my cousin Steve Chick. So talented! When the sun comes in late afternoon to evening you can see the colors change. I just love all the blue-greens and copper! Makes me feel creative just looking at them! :0)

Just a closer view of some of my storage. I love having the baskets with the stamp sets. Everything is labeled and in alphabetical order. I put a small piece of cardstock inside under the clear box so I would see the name of the stamp set better. But I love my Kaisercraft binders with the pouches and magnetic sheets to hold my dies. Each binder has different companies and within companies I have decorative separate from basic shapes and tags. It works well for me and keeps them neat and accessible.

Well, that's the tour for today! Take care and I will post all the stuff we pull out and how it looks on all the tables when were done!

So here's the question for Blog Candy: (please make sure you post your answer here on this post...thank you)

What is your favorite storage you use with your scrapbooking and stamping supplies?

I will draw for a surprise blog candy on Sunday the 27th. I'll post a picture of the blog candy then.

  1. I like to recycle so I have decorated plastic and glass jars for pens and sissors and I have a few small creamic jars and dishes for markers and color pencils. I think my favorite storage unit is my wood pad and marker holder that holds all my ink pads for my stamping. Thanks for a chance to win. JVH

  2. I don't have a craft room, but I wish my craft area at least remotely resembled this! My favorite storage items are the ones I make myself.

I can make containers the exact size for what I need, and recycle things at the same time. Two-fer!

  3. I have 2 types of storage that I use frequently. The first is the plastic drawers like you have your 8 1/2 x 11 paper in. (I use lots of those!) Then second, I like to use the cardboard photo boxes for storage. They stack nicely and I can label the front so I know what's in them. That's where I keep more general craft stuff, like my glue gun and sticks, craft baggies for small items, and stuff like that. Take care!

  4. Shirley, you are a lucky one. That craft room of yours is to die for. I LOVE it. My favorite storage space is the soup containers that Safeway sells. They are clear and plastic about 4 inches high and about 5 inches in diameter. I use these for ribbon that is shorter than a yard. I have my spools on a rod for the longer ribbons, but what do you do with the shorter ones? I have them on a shelf going from white to pink to red, orange etc. They look very colorful (and I love the soups too).
Talk to you soon, take care my friend

  5. Hang on I'm just picking myself up off the floor! Shirley!!! OH WOW!!! this is totally gorgeous!!!! Oooohhh I want to come and play in your craft room!!! OH WOW!

Hmmm my favourite storage would have to be .... well in this house my 'kitchen' cupboards that we built into the spare room to put all my craft things.

But since we are moving in a few weeks ... I won't have any storage shelves or cupboards .... waaaahhhhhhh.

But I do have some document draws that I get from the local office supply store for my wood mounted stamps. They stack on top of each other so they are great.

I also use big coffee jars and tins for bits and pieces. Its fun to decorate the outside and have them on display.

I will be hunting the second hand stores for lovely old wardrobes that I can 'transform' into craft storage for the new house ... hopefully I can pick up some low cost ones and also help the environment by recycling.

Mmmmm I'm scrolling back up to drool over the photos of your craft room again ........

    Big hugs
    Carly

  6. Hi Shirley,
First of all, YOUR ROOM IS AMAZING! Look at all that space. You are so organized. How wonderful.
My favorite storage place is to use the UniKeep View Case Binders for my embossing folders and my clear stamps. They sit neatly on my book shelf and hold a lot of items and do not take up that much space.
Thanks for all the pics of your room and some awesome ideas. I have had the ikea rods for a year now and when I bought them I was going to use in my kitchen but they did not work for our area. They have just been sitting on a shelf since we brought them home. I now am going to get them up on my wall to use for my punches.
Have a great week and keep up on your organizing.

  13. I am equally envious and inspired by your craft room - it is so wonderful! Right now, my favorite storage is my only storage - my dining room table! And many plastic bins. I am new to this whole craft phenomenom and have yet to kick my hubby out of his tv room for crafting space! You have given me so many ideas (and doable ones at that) - thank you! Thanks for the contest as well!

  14. OMG! Your craft room rocks! I so want one like this especially storing the papers, the stamps and the spellbinders. Eeek, how I wish hubby would grant my wishes!

I recycle my plastic storage jars: big ones for my ribbons, small ones for brads. For my papers I place them on my metallic rack. I still have to sort those by colour and name. It's gonna take me a LONG time for this. Help!!!! Anyhoo, that's how I do it for now. It's not perfect but for now, it works!

  15. I don't know how I got along without the 12x12 drawer unit that's on casters that I got for Christmas. But the small tools, knives, pens, tweezers, brushes, etc. I keep at my finger tips in an upcycled, repurposed lazy susan. I napkin collaged the lazy susan and attached a variety of recylced containers that were also napkin collaged.

  17. I love your room!! I am currently using an old long chest that has been passed down through the family. I can't seem to be able to part with it. So it's been repainted, and all of my paper is in there, along with stickers- but lets not mention all my suitcases and totes of stuff either! As soon as we move into a house, I want to transform a hall closet or something into a scrap area- I was inspired by an idea off pinterest. But for now; I enjoy my chest- in my dining area accompanied with a pretty table cloth so nobody knows what it is until it's time to scrap! :)

  18. Shirley, you are my OCD sista! I want to live in your craft room! I so love organizing my scrapbook supplies. Sometimes, I think I like to buy and organize more than crafting - gasp! Right now, my fav organizer is my new ribbon storage. It's not nearly as impressive as your Etsy find, but it's bright, pink, and cute! Joe Morgan was actually the inspiration (not that he's bright and pink, but he is cute!). I bought a pink 3 ring binder and the plastic pages for baseball cards. I then cut chipboard in the size of baseball cards. I then covered them with pretty duct tape. Ribbons are wrapped around the cards and held in place with a pin. They are of course organized by color as well as theme. I carry the binder in a pretty pink, orange, and green striped bag from Art Bin courtesy of the Joes! I find myself using ribbon more - yeah!

  19. Where..oh where...oh where did you get your stamp pad organizers? I love them! A place for the pads, markers, and re-inkers. I haven't even finished reading the post yet...but I had to come down and comment. I just recently broke down and purchased the Stampin' Up stamp pad carousel. I have been needing one for some time....but it was just a little too pricey for me....but I finally gave up and got one. Would love to know where you got yours.

  20. Wow! Thanks for sharing pictures of your craft room. I always love seeing how others organize their crafting spaces. You have an awesome craft room. I wish mine was that organized. Hopefully I can get Dezzarai to babysit some over her summer break so I can get my space organized a little better. As far as favorite storage....I would say inexspensive plastic containers. I use the 12x12 Iris containers for paper, just some basic plastic storage boxes for stickers and the 12x12 plastic drawers for stamps.

  21. Hi Shirley your room looks so nice.My storage is in plastic organizers from the store that fit my paper and things the outside of the paper holders have a scrape of the colored paper taped to them so I know what color is in what draw.

  22. Shirley, your craft room is so organized that it puts mine to shame. I have to say that my favorite organizer is the paper cart on wheels with five drawers for 12x12 papers. I have mine sorted by patterned paper and solid colors and by size. I received it from my friends when I retired and i love it for that reason also. It is full and I am thinking of buying a new one to stack on top of old one!

  23. What a wonderful layout on your room for creativity! (drool) My fave storage rack right now is my lazy susan on my tiny stamping desk. No room for a room so I take part of my hubby's long desk and use my 2x3 table to stamp and on it is my lazy susan for all the tiny pads that I use mostly, momento dew drops and versa mark, hole punch, white out, glues, stamp cleaner, tweezer and tape. :)

  25. fantastic craft space! I love all your storage containers and cabinets. My favorite storage for papers is a plastic see through drawer, I have little space since I share the room with my son for his playroom and it's just a hobby so they all go in one drawer. Stamps goes into another plastic drawer, ribbons and dies too in different drawers. plain cardstocks goes into a filing rack which is at the right of my desk so it's very accessible when I need them, punches goes into a wooden drawer. inks and cutting tools are in a drawer under my desk. Scraps are in a plastic container on my desk infront of me so I can just grab and use them fast. My coloring tools also in front of me. My desk is in front of a window so I get to see outside when I craft. In all, everything is in arms reach.
    :)

  28. What a blessing to have so much space and supplies, Shirley! You are an organizational genius as well as an inspiration to me. I am not at all organized but I do make an effort to be so. I recycle boxes that I have covered in fabric that matches my curtains. I also recycle jars and bottles for markers and small embellishments. I made cardboard bobbins for my ribbon and pack them in a box, it's amazing how much ribbon will fit in a shoe box when it is wound on these flat bobbins! My favorite item for storage I got on Ebay and is a handmade wooden storage shelf for 12x12 papers.
Good luck with the continuing process of organizing. I do think it is a truly unending process for many of us.
Thanks for a chance at the phenomenal blog candy you are offering.

  30. Shirley - WOW!! It is so awesome to see in person - I love your room and organization.

My favorite storage is an old CropInStyle Paper cart that has 5 shelves and folds down into a rolling tote. It has a long extended handle so it is easy to navigate to crops etc. I wanted one years ago and they had quit making them. When I was whinning to a friend - she said you can have mine - I never use it! Now, years later she said she wished she had one as they are no longer available - I said she could have it back, and being the true friend she is - said "no, I gave that to you." I love her and my paper cart :) LindaN

  31. I have never seen such an organized stamp room... incredible. I like to store my stamps in 9" x 12" clear plastic frames and it almost looks like that's what you have in the first cabinet. I had lucite holders made for the frames and I also have a standing cabinet. The stamps are organized by category and easy to slide out the frame and peruse the stamps for ideas.
